Notary (Notario) - An officer whose business is to take notes of protests and other transactions, to draw and pass public instruments, and to attest and legalize private dealings and writings.

I don't know if all of the Puerto Rico notary records (Protocolos Notariales) were deposited in the Archivo General de PR in San Juan. However, I am aware that AGPR have quite an extensive collection of this kind of records. Some of them are organized by town, by notary name and then by year. Others (older ones) are in no specific order and you need to review a page at a time to see if anything is of interest to you.

As far as I know, these records have not been microfilmed and to view them, you need to visit the Archivo General de Puerto Rico. Their physical location is in 500 Avenida Ponce de Leon, Parada 8, Puerta de Tierra, San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Their mailing address is:

Archivo General de Puerto Rico
Apartado 4184
San Juan, PR 00905-4184
