So to help you out with these censuses, here is what we know:

Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States in 1898 as a result of the Spanish-American War, and in 1899 the US War Ministry conducted a special census. However, the records were destroyed by fire and only the statistical figures survived or so I have been told.

U.S. Federal Censuses are available at the National Archives, LDS Family History Center's as well as many libraries. For a small fee, you can review them at Ancestry.com and also for a fee, they are commercially available on CD's from various sources. Or you can become a member of this site and peruse our on going project .

Our project is to partially transcribe the Puerto Rico 1910 U.S. Federal Census in a standard format for the benefit of all the genealogical researchers on the Internet.

We say partially because not all fields will be extracted. Only enough information for you to be able to recognize an individual and also be able to easily locate the person on the original document.  In other words, it is a finding tool.

It should not be considered to be proof, or that it is always 100% accurate, or contains all of the information in the actual document. Once you have found a record of interest, then you should locate the original record to review the rest of the information.

We should point out that the photographs used on this project and added to the some of the listed persons are obtained from various sources like photos in books, email attachments sent by family, found on the internet, etc.

These records were taken from the actual census microfilm. As with any census, index, or compilation, occasional errors do creep in. Some of the errors occur at the census taker's level, while some are obviously made by us the transcribers ;o)

If you find omissions or fault with our interpretation, please bring to our attention. After verifying the information on the actual census records, the changes will be made on future updates to these pages. This way, we will be continually improving the site and making them even more valuable as research tools for ALL.
