(Tomado de San Juan de PR Guía Histórica 1508-1993, Jaime Monge Rivera, 1995) 3= Ramirez Business College (presently known as Ramirez College of Business and Technology, Inc.) Founded in 1923 and originally located in Calle Fortaleza on the second floor of a building across from Plaza Provision. Owned and operated by a married couple. They offered short secretarial and business courses. My mother remembers the wife's name as Acasia Ramirez. She gave typing lessons and had a daughter named Zoe Ramirez. Through an interview with present (August, 2001) Vice-President Evelyn Mercado de Ruiz, we further learned that aside from the San Juan Campus they now have a Mayagüez Learning site. According to Mrs. Mercado, a well-known educator, Don Esteban Ramirez, founded this college and it is the first and oldest private college of its type in Puerto Rico. The college is presently located on Ponce de Leon Avenue #70, Hato Rey, PR. Their mailing address is P. O. Box 195460, San Juan, PR 00919-5460. Telephone: 763-3120. (Our sincere thanks to Carmen L. Santos Colon who conducted this interview for us.) |
